Shawn Burrell
Thirty years in B2B revenue leadership, across markets I was asked to open from zero: Austin for Clipper Magazine, a 14-year monthly revenue record at Community Impact, 120% year-over-year across ten markets at Granite Media. In 2025 a structured AI mentorship took me from operator to builder. I now design, ship, and operate production enterprise SaaS software solo, under a licensing agreement with SLA obligations.
The work is run as one discipline. AI agent teams are governed — separate surfaces with separate permissions, a read-first gate against canonical standards, rules enforced in the repository, verification against production required before anything closes. The same discipline runs the revenue side: an outbound methodology I built (HIT-AIM™), layered into an AI workflow, measured by stranger-to-engaged conversion on live pipeline — not by activity.
Enterprise SaaS Platform in Production
Designed, built, and operated solo under a licensing agreement with SLA obligations.
A former vice president at GateHouse Media and former board chair of evvnt — a publisher with the option of commissioning any well-resourced engineering team in the industry — selected me as the sole builder for this platform. He trusted me to build it. Within six months he expanded the agreement by Amendment No. 1, growing the venue fleet 20 → 30 and extending the term through May 2027, and separately retained SB Digital Solutions as fractional revenue operator.

Governed agent orchestration
Coordination, Execution, and Background surfaces run as separate agent roles with separate permissions, read-first gates against canonical standards, and ~70 operational rules enforced in the repository.
Row Level Security + PKCE OAuth
47 RLS policies enforced at the database layer. PKCE OAuth with self-registration disabled. Admin JWT verification on protected edge functions. Access is role-gated with an audit trail.
Composable module library
Events, business directory, editorial CMS, newsletter engine, identity resolution, 37-zone ad server, ticketing, and first-party analytics — configured per deployment, unified under one Control Center.
Release gates in CI
Gitleaks secret scanning across 223+ commits. OWASP ZAP: 0 failures / 58 passes. Dependency and vulnerability scans gated at release. Third-party web-security audit at Grade A (AuditYour.app).
Idempotent scraper fleet
30-venue nightly scraper under a strict idempotency contract: hash-based dedup, normalize → enrich pipeline, quality gates, retry automation, and dormant-season handling. Health surfaced in an in-house admin console.
AI-native products
ICP Lead Finder — deterministic lead scoring built so a language model cannot invent a record: 447 leads sourced from Google Places and scored across 33 cost-ledgered searches for $1.23 in total data spend; six-factor versioned rubric; LLM confined to outreach drafting. SpecBuilder AI — 220 users and 2,100+ page views in its first 10 days, no paid promotion; users in four countries.
Single admin Control Center
Content, audience, directory, advertising, ticketing, users, and settings in one sidebar. Role-gated with full audit trail and a dedicated Security tab. First-party analytics cross-checked against GA4.
Backup, PITR, and SLA operation
Daily backups, 30-day retention, point-in-time recovery, isolated preview branches, environment-gated CDN deploys. Operated under a licensing agreement with 2-hour critical response, monthly reports, quarterly reviews, through May 2027.

The cover letter and resume Erik Cockrell is hand-delivering on November 10, 2026.
Dear Alan,
Erik Cockrell put my name in front of you. Erik and I have known each other for years, and when he described the three AI roles your team is building out — Engineer, Business/Workflow Analyst, Data Scientist — and said “all of us will need to do a bit of everything,” he thought of me. I trust his read, which is why I’m writing.
Over the last six months I designed, built, and shipped a complete publisher platform solo — events ingestion, business directory, editorial CMS, newsletter automation, identity resolution, 37-zone ad serving, ticketing — live in production at week 8, full three-phase delivery at week 12, now operating under a 12-month Platform Licensing Agreement with SLA obligations through May 2027. On December 7 I complete a parallel fractional revenue engagement that ran a sales methodology I developed (HIT-AIM™) layered into AI workflows — 17.2% stranger-to-engaged on live pipeline against a 1–3% industry baseline, roughly 3× to 17× published benchmarks.
Both case studies close this month. The plan was to launch a PR campaign and social push to grow my own company. Two things stopped me. First, scaling a sales-services business solo is hard — and it is still the hurdle in front of me. Second, after talking with Erik, I realized I miss being on a team. I have proven I can build and operate real things solo, and I know the ceiling of solo. What Erik described — a small, high-ownership AI team inside an enterprise with the infrastructure and reach to build at real scale — can produce bigger, more inspiring work than I can on my own. That is what I want to be part of. If this works out, I will step back from the sales-consulting side of my business entirely. The platform licensing continues as an SLA that takes little of my time, and maintenance can be outsourced. I would be available full-time.
The best fit based on what Erik described is likely the AI Business / Workflow Analyst seat — HIT-AIM and the production platform’s agent-governance model are both AI-workflow architecture work — but I have the engineering depth to contribute across all three roles, which seems to be the point.

Thank you for the read. I look forward to the conversation.
Sincerely,
Shawn BurrellThirty years building revenue organizations in new markets — opened Austin for Clipper Magazine, set a 14-year monthly revenue record at Community Impact, delivered 120% year-over-year growth across ten markets at Granite Media — then, through a structured AI mentorship, became a builder. Designed, shipped, and now operate a production enterprise SaaS platform solo, licensed under a 12-month agreement with SLA obligations. I direct AI agent teams under governance — separate surfaces with separate permissions, a read-first gate, rules enforced in the repository, nothing closed on an agent's word — and I create, operate, and install the AI sales-enablement workflows that run on them. Looking for a senior role where AI operations, platform engineering, and revenue leadership intersect — the three halves of what I actually do.
- Governed agent teams. Coordination (plan, scope, draft), Execution (code, migrations, deploys), and Background (overnight audits, scheduled jobs) run as separate surfaces with separate permissions. Routing work between them is the architecture; the model vendor is interchangeable.
- Read-first gate. Execution agents cannot see coordination context, so every change is gated on reading the canonical standards first and verifying against the documented contract before anything is proposed.
- Rules in the repo, not in prompts. ~70 operational rules captured from real incidents — data-safety, dedup and idempotency contracts, deploy conventions — enforced as standing repository instructions that every new session inherits.
- Verification over self-report. No task closes on an agent's claim. Completion means browser and database verification against production, logged to audit tables.
- Business method in the loop. The same discipline runs revenue: an outbound methodology I created (HIT-AIM™), layered into an AI workflow, operated by me on live pipelines and installed in client sales teams — measured by stranger-to-engaged conversion, not activity.
- Delivered MaineCoastLife.com solo in 12 weeks across three phases — live at week 8: event ingestion, directory, editorial CMS, newsletter automation, identity resolution, 37-zone ad server, ticketing.
- Selected by a licensee with deep industry standing — a former GateHouse Media vice president and former evvnt board chair — who expanded the agreement by amendment (fleet 20 → 30 venues, SLA with 2-hour critical response, through May 2027) and separately retained me as fractional revenue operator.
- Security posture: 47 Row Level Security policies, PKCE auth with self-registration disabled, OWASP ZAP 0 failures / 58 passes, secret scanning clean across 223+ commits, third-party audit Grade A, isolated preview branches, 30-day backups with point-in-time recovery.
- Newsletter at 52.8% open / 5.3% click against 3,700+ subscribers (Omeda H1 2026 publisher benchmark 31.6% / 1.16%); 150K+ ad impressions; 2,600+ ticketed events served.
- SpecBuilder AI: 220 users and 2,100+ page views in its first 10 days, no paid promotion; users in four countries, syndication reaching Hong Kong. ICP Lead Finder: deterministic, versioned-rubric lead scoring — 447 leads sourced and scored across 33 cost-ledgered searches for $1.23 in total data spend, zero records invented; Google Places sourcing with an LLM confined to outreach drafting only.
